Testimonials

"Coach Jason is an incredible instructor. Very clear and detailed with his instruction. On top of being a great instructor, he takes the time to make sure everyone has a handle on the technique. He creates a great, welcoming environment and treats you like you’re part of the team from Day 1. He is great with beginners, making sure they are comfortable when they start. He gives those little details that are missing for the more advanced students. We were sad to see him go but excited to see what he can accomplish at empower."

jason reno - Head instructor

As head instructor of Empower Jiu Jitsu Jason has created a home for any student who thought they could never do something like Jiu jitsu, in a family friendly environment focused on safety, growth, and longevity.

In 2016 Jason met BJJ black belt Carlos Archila, trained under Lake County BJJ, and acted as instructor of many of their classes.  After many years of hard work in Jiu Jitsu, strength and conditioning, Jason earned his BJJ black belt In 2021 from Carlos.

In 2021 Jason moved to Sarver, PA opening up Empower Jiu Jitsu. He knew he wanted to open a school in a small community where the concentration was on the people and not the numbers.

i'm interested, how do i start?

Everyone gets a free trial class, no experience required. Simply view the class schedule above and use the Contact Us form to let us know when you'll be dropping by.  All that's needed is athletic clothes and a water bottle.

I'm not young anymore

I know it's cliché to say "You're never too old!" but you really never are! BJJ is truly a martial art for everyone and there is a thriving community of senior practitioners. We tailor our teaching to the individual and it's a sport you can take at your own pace.

can women train bjj?

Of course you can! At first glance it can seem like BJJ is a heavily male dominated sport, but in fact women's Jiu Jitsu is thriving and all genders of all ages are welcomed at Empower. Women are actively training here with us and we have created a very diverse and inclusive environment to train and we're proud to be so.

what is "gi" vs "Nogi"?

The GI is a heavily stitched cotton uniform that we wear when training to simulate real clothing, without fear of ripping or tearing, as grabbing sleeves and lapels is common for BJJ technique.  NOGI refers to training without a GI, meaning wearing athletic clothes where grabbing of clothing is not allowed.
